IS USING INTERNET SAFE?

Many people surf the Internet as part of their work activities, others visit a wide range of pages to stay fully informed of the news in the world, perhaps simply to complement their educational training or to entertain themselves during leisure hours. But everyone wonders if it is really possible to surf safely on the internet and that is precisely what this article is about. What Is Internet Security? Within the operating rules and policies that are part of the management of the websites to which users have access, a series of parameters have been established in order to prevent and control unauthorized entry to the resources available within Internet. This is part of internet security and its goal is to maintain a level that allows users to enter each page without risks to their computer or the integrity of their personal information. Therefore, talking about security is having ways to prevent, protect and avoid unauthorized intrusion to private networks, such as corporate or ev...

TYPES OF VIRUSES

When we talk about computer security with antivirus, the virus is the main threat. It can destroy a single program or the entire computer system instead. Today there is a wide variety of types of computer viruses. In fact, 57% of the threats that affect the security of computers and systems are viruses.

types of viruses that affect computer
The first virus was created in the 1970s and was called "Creeper." In 1981, the first virus created by hackers appeared, spreading through Apple's floppy drives. According to the Information Technology Promotion Agency, the number of viruses increased to 52,151 in 2004. However, due to certain programs that completely remove viruses, their number decreased to approximately 14,000 in 2010.

Types of Computer Viruses and Their Scope

Today, the different types of computer viruses are still very widespread, affecting the performance of computers. Viruses are also hacker tools to gain unauthorized access to systems and steal sensitive information.

Knowing the different types of computer viruses that can affect business systems is the first step in ensuring effective protection.

Thus, the most common include the following:

Resident virus: Resident viruses lodge in RAM. They can interfere with normal system operation, causing file and program corruption.

Multipartite virus: This type of virus can easily spread on the computer system. It is highly contagious and performs unauthorized actions in the operating system, folders and other programs on the computer.

Direct acting virus: Direct-action viruses attack certain types of files, typically .exe and .com files. The main purpose of this virus is to replicate and infect files in folders. They generally don't delete files or affect your computer's performance and speed. In addition, it is one of the types of computer viruses that, more easily, can be eliminated by antivirus programs.

Browser hijacker: This type of virus infects the web browser, which will be the one that will take you to different websites. In this way, every time a domain name is entered in the Internet address bar, the browser hijacker will open various fake websites that can damage the computer. Despite the severity of the damage that this class of virus can do, most reliable browsers have built-in features to block them in advance.

Web scripting virus: This virus lives on certain links, advertisements, image placement, videos, and website design. It can carry malicious code which, when clicked, viruses will automatically download or direct the user to malicious websites.

Macro virus: Macro viruses target applications and software that contain macros. These viruses can perform a series of operations that affect the performance of the program or software.

Directory virus: They are one of the most feared types of computer viruses, since they change file paths. When running programs and software that are infected with a directory virus, the virus program also runs in the background. Furthermore, it may be difficult for the user to locate the original application or software, once infected.

Although these are the most popular types of computer viruses, they are not the only ones. To this list we should add polymorphic viruses, encryption viruses, viruses that infect executable files or programs, non-resident viruses that replicate through modules, space filler type viruses, FAT viruses or network viruses.

To prevent any of these types of computer viruses from affecting computers and systems, it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest news in security threats, install the recommended updates on the computer and mobile devices, as well as antivirus software that can detect, block and remove all types of viruses.
